The Happytime Murders

So the Happytime Murders was released in theatres this weekend and I saw it. Oof. This movie was just plain old frustrating to watch. My personal takeaway from this movie is how utterly unrefined it was. And not just in the fact that it takes the idea of a raunchy comedy and leans heavily into it like so much that it was the only thing they marketed about it, but it felt like every joke and story point never made it past a first draft. Like something would get suggested by the writers and at no point did anyone ask,…

The Best Movie of the Summer

Yeah, I’m going for a clickbait title, what are you gonna do about it? You’re reading this so obviously it worked. So strap in and get ready to have me just absolutely gush over Eighth Grade. Eighth Grade is the directorial debut of comedian Bo Burnham and was also written by him. It follows the story of Kayla as she tries to navigate the final week(s?) in middle school and it is a masterpiece. My immediate comparison would be Lady Bird from last year and if you’ve like ever had a conversation with me about that movie you know that…

Solid Stuff

Aight I won’t lie, I personally found those whole expectations vs reality bits I was doing when talking about so many movies at once to be an enormous drag. So as I move down to movies I like just a little bit less I won’t be doing that. What will I be doing instead? Who knows? I’m just making it all up as I go really. My next category of movies is the “Solid Stuff”. It makes up largest part of 50 movies I saw over the past 8 months with 1 of the 50 fitting into this category.  Another…

Mission: Impossible – Procrastination

I knew I’d be doing a write-up on the Mission Impossible movies the night before the newest one came out. I just knew it. Luckily I kept an ok pace so I only have to write about one more, Rogue Nation. Uhh… Rogue Nation is pretty good. Def not as good as Ghost Protocol though. I just don’t think the stunts were as off the hook as they were in Ghost Protocol, except that plane one right at the beginning, that was nutty. Starting the movie off with something that bananas probably set my expectations too high though. I think…

Mission Impossible: Catch Up

In just under two weeks the newest Mission Impossible movie will arrive and in preparation for this movie, I have a confession to make. I’ve never seen a Mission Impossible movie from front to back. Ever. Not once in my life have I started one of these movies and then some 2 hours later arrived at the end. I’ve seen chunks of most of them. They seem entertaining enough, Tom Cruise is obviously a pretty popular guy, and I’m a big fan of spy movies. There really isn’t a good reason for why I haven’t watched them, other than the overwhelming…

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Look, I’m gonna eventually say something here that qualifies as a spoiler for Avengers: Infinity War so if you haven’t seen it yet you’ve been warned. I won’t be spoiling any details from the newest Ant-Man however. I had the opportunity to go see the new Ant-Man movie last night and I’ve gotta say that after what was an utterly depressing end to Infinity War it was kind of nice to go back to the fun little adventures of a hero like Ant-Man and not think about the fact that like over half of the Marvel characters were wiped from…

ye

Aight so back on Friday Kayne West dropped his new album “ye” and I’ve listened to is front to back like 6 or 7 times now and I’m proud to announce that I friggin love this thing. It’s whacky and at times all over the place but it’s genuine and Kayne continues to prove that he just an outstanding producer.  Since it’s a short album at only 7 songs I feel like I can just go through each one and give my thoughts. I Thought About Killing You: I really like that through the first half of the song all…
